Introduction. FluorAcryl 7298 is a perfluoropolyether (PFPE) acrylate used as an additive in other UV curable coatings to reduce surface tension and improve water, oil and stain resistance. This fluorinated acrylate is transparent, hydrophobic and oleophobic with exceptional hardness, toughness, heat, and chemical resistance. Films and coatings with 7298 may be expected to provide anti-fouling and easy cleaning from fingerprints and other contaminants. FluorAcryl 7298 is compatible with many monomers, such as TMPTA. With or without pigments and other particulates, 7298 rapidly UV cures in the presence or absence of oxygen. The perfluoropolyether segment of 7298 has a molecular weight of approximately 1800. Unlike other fluorinated additives, 7298 will not mechanically weaken or reduce chemical resistance of the final polymer matrix, rather strengthening it and decreasing solvent penetration. While 7298 is soluble in fluorinated solvents, it is also completely soluble in many organic solvents, such as ethyl acetate, butyl acetate, MEK and PGMEA. FluorAcryl 7298 is provided without solvents.

Application Methods. FluorAcryl 7298 as a component in other coatings may be applied via direct or reverse roll, offset gravure, metering rod, slot die, knife over roll, air knife, curtain, dipping, spraying, screen printing and spin coating methods. FluorAcryl 7298 is a surface modification agent.

Fire: In the event of fire, this product, as with all fluorinated materials, can become an inhalation hazard. Fire fighters should wear self-contained breathing apparatus, in addition to eye, face and body protection. Extinguish fires with dry chemical, foam, carbon dioxide, or water fog and spray from a safe distance or protected location. Keep containers cool.

Handling and Storage: It is important to prevent exposure through the use of protective clothing and equipment, good work practices, and proper engineering controls. Do not handle this product in the presence of UV light, as it may polymerize. Store containers at temperatures above 45°F and below 80°F. Recommended bulk storage temperatures should remain within the 45-80°F range. Material allowed to freeze should be heated to 100 °F and mixed thoroughly with low shear to disperse inhibitors and other additives. Store out of direct light in non-transparent containers.

Shelf Life and Disposal: This product should be used within 12 months of receipt for optimum product performance. All safety guidelines should be followed. See 40 CFR 261 for further instructions on proper disposal. Disposal must comply with federal, state and local regulations.
