Description: FSM 660-4 is a perfluorooctal mono-functional
trimethoxy silane in a high boiling point fluorinated solvent providing
low surface energy to oxide surfaces and good adhesion for fluoropolymers.
Treated surfaces acquire increased chemical and abrasion resistance. The
surface energy for monolayer coatings on glass can range from 15-18 dynes
per cm. The continuous working temperature is 150°C, and intermittent
temperatures may exceed 250°C.
Application: Wear skin and breathing protection. Oxide surfaces must be
clean and free of oils. Dilute FSM 660-4 to 0.1 to 0.05 % into fluorocarbon
solvent, alcohol or xylene. Aqueous solutions for immediate use may be prepared
that are 80 parts water, 15 parts alcohol, 5 part FSM 660-4 and enough acetic
acid to reduce the pH to about 5. Dip, spray, brush, spin or wipe thin coating
onto clean, dry surface. Allow twenty four hours to cure under ambient conditions
or heat at 90°C for 10 minutes to densify coating and improve adhesion.
Ambient cures can often be accelerated by immediate secondary application
of 0.1% w/w acetic acid. After curing, remove excess fluorosilane from treated
surfaces using fluorinated solvent or soap and water.
